Most times you hear a story regarding professional footballers in the Premiership is about how they are greedy, self-centered, they don’t live in the real world, driving very expensive cars, stinking attitude and so on, but Swansea defender Angel Rangel has defied all these stories.
After he and his wife Nikki had been to a local sandwich chain and overheard the manager saying that they had to throw away unused sandwiches, Angel asked if he could have them for the homeless rather than see them go to waste.
The couple then drove around Swansea for over an hour looking for homeless people in order to give out the sandwiches, but because the weather was so cold and snowing heavy they could not find anyone, so Nikki tweeted “Anyone know the location of homeless people in Swansea? I got food going spare”.
They were guided by tweets to a local charity shelter that looked after the homeless and delivered the food to the shelter.
The couple felt so pleased with the reaction to this story that they confirmed they would be doing this again.
Nice to hear a story from the “other side”.
