Show Me The Money Company Voluntary Arrangement

Tendai Biti, Zimbabwe’s Finance Minister has announced that the country has £138 and 34 pence in the bank, not him you understand but the whole country, at one point the prevailing interest rate in the country was 230 million per cent.

This is despite the fact that the country has very fertile land and is mineral rich.There is also talk that France is ‘bankrupt’ and the French government have instructed all non-residential premises to turn out the lights to conserve power.

I ‘Googled’ the UK national debt, what comes back makes very interesting reading, the numbers are truly galactic in their magnitude and changing constantly.

Just where does all the money go? Who in the world has it? I suppose some of it will be spirited away by politicians with their noses in the trough but where is the bulk of it?

The world seems to be on the brink of financial meltdown and most countries owe almost incalculable amounts but to whom or what is the money owed?

Another quick Google led me to several ‘real time’ national debt calculators, as far as I can see most countries own stratospheric amounts of money; I know Auric Goldfinger is dead, so he hasn’t got it!

Apparently the French don’t have it, neither do we or as far as I can tell any European country, Zimbabwe could probably lend us a tenner but I doubt we could afford to borrow it.

Seemingly our national debt works out at £17,624 for every person living here; each household pays the equivalent of £1921 in interest per annum to satisfy the national debt. Zimbabwe’s plight doesn’t seem so amusing now does it?

As a company director these unrealistic figures mean very little to you but as we all know debt is very subjective, when you are being chased by HMRC for unpaid VAT, PAYE or Corporation Tax, however little you may owe, the pain is very real.
