The League Cup Final at Wembley this year was billed as the “Underdog Final” ok maybe a bit unfair on Premiership side Swansea City, but bearing in mind they beat teams including Liverpool and Chelsea on the their route to the final you can understand why.
Bradford City from League two became the “underdogs” of the season by beating Premiership teams like Wigan, Aston Villa and Arsenal on the way to the final.
But on the day of the final the Underdogs finally met their match, Swansea City running out winners in a convincing 5-0 victory. Poor old Bradford had their goalkeeper sent off and only managed to have one shot on goal during the whole match.
It may hurt the team and their supporters by the size of the defeat, but once all the hype has died down then the whole of Bradford will surely be proud of their teams achievement of reaching the League Cup Final of 2013.
As a nation we just love a scrappy underdog, and we will them onto succeed – If only that had worked for Bradford City in the final.
